The High Meadows Story

Tire SwingA long time ago, one woman and three men saw a good place. They said, "Let's make a school..."

So begins the story told in Native American sign language, which is taught to children who attend High Meadows School and High Meadows Camp. The time was 1973. The woman was Jody Holden, a current board member and our first Head of School. The men were Bill Crawford, Jay Dickerson, and Michael Drake. And the place was one of the highest points in Roswell, which our sign language story tells us, inspired the founders to call it, "High Meadows."

Ms. Holden recalls, "Our goal was to encourage creativity and autonomy so that children could use their own decision making skills in a safe, enriching environment. And we wanted them to connect with the beautiful world around them. A love of learning is innate - and so, we worked to nurture that in our children."

Building on our founding beliefs, High Meadows has become an extraordinary learning environment for preschool through eighth grade students. Our educational approach has remained one of engagement and connection with each other, the community around us and the global community at large. And we consistently achieve recognition for best practices and excellence from the most respected organizations in education.
