Parent-Teacher Organization

S.H.A.R.E. is High Meadows School's parent-teacher organization, and the force behind the bulk of volunteer hours contributed to the school. During the 2009-2010 school year, we conservatively estimate that parent volunteers contributed more than 13,000 hours of time to:

• Enhance Classroom Activity: Room parents support the teachers in the classroom, assisting with activities and field trips, as well as sharing specialized knowledge. Our enrichment programs, also coordinated by parent volunteers, futher support the classrooms with workshops from visiting artists, musicians, scientists and other professionals.
  
  
• Demonstrate Appreciation for Faculty and Staff: S.H.A.R.E. volunteers sponsor a staff and teacher back to school breakfast, an end of the school luncheon, a staff holiday dinner and other activities, as needed.
  
  
• Organize and Run our Holiday "Secret Shop": Each year, our school-wide "gift shop" is set up before winter break, providing an opportunity for children to independently purchase holiday gifts to delight friends and family members. Parent volunteers acquire merchandise throughout the year and staff the shop in December.
  
  
• Organize and Run Fall and Spring Book Fairs: These two book fairs raise funds and provide books to classrooms while giving our entire school community the opportunity to purchase books and gift items.
  
  
• Give Grandparents and Special Friends a Window on Our World: Through the leadership of parent organizers, Grandparents and Special Friends Day allows relatives and special friends the opportunity to see firsthand what makes High Meadows such a highly respected educational environment of excellence, engagement and connection.
  
  
• Bring Our Community Together: Informal Fall and Spring picnics enable students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni to share in the beauty of our campus, enjoying each other's company. Likewise, our annual Fall Festival offers a day of activities including crafts, tree climbing and a picnic on the meadow. Other events are also coordinated throughout the year.
  
  
• Help Our Community Stay in Touch: Parent volunteers augment our online school directory with a printed directory. They also reach out to new families to help them feel more connected to the High Meadows community, offer information and answer questions throughout the year. Volunteers also coordinate and market High Meadows merchandise to help community members show their school spirit wherever they might go.
