Co-curricular Enrichment Programs

High Meadows Experiential Programs

Learning extends beyond the four walls of the classroom.

The enthusiasm is unmistakable: It’s the sparkle in the little girl’s eyes as she tells her mother about the tea pot she is making out of clay as part of her class’ unit on Japan and China… The excitement in the boy’s voice as he describes getting to play the guitar in music class... A vivid re-enactment of the dramatic play that the class created… A confident expression of information and ideas. These are the joyful, meaningful connections that our children discover through the educational activities that educators call, “enrichment.”

At many schools, enrichment opportunities are offered as classes separate from the core academic curriculum, or as extracurricular, after-school programs. At High Meadows, they are so much more than that. Beginning in preschool, our enrichment program offers varied opportunities for a multitude of learning styles. Each offers a different way for children to express themselves, to relate to peers, to pursue an inquiry, to shine.

In the primary and elementary years, students enjoy weekly explorations of music, theatrical arts, visual arts, computer studies and environmental studies. Public speaking is also deeply woven into studies at every level.

In the middle years, students select a variety of “Mini-course” electives in our core enrichment areas, taking up to 18 different courses each year. Far more than just a fun mid-day break from “serious academics,” mini courses offer:

  • Multi-Faceted Exposure to New Interests
  • The Ability to Develop and Pursue Academic and Artistic Passions
  • Varied, Multi-Age Interaction
  • Expanded Opportunities for Participation
  • Opportunities to Work Together as a Community
