Bird's Eye View Blog

Welcome to the Bird’s Eye View

By Lisa Baker, Head of School
I will never forget how my grandfather used to sit next to a big bay window on Lake Huron with his trusty binoculars in hand, watching the birds. This early memory is one I’ve carried with me ever since and has led me to wonder and appreciate what things look like from the bird’s perspective.
I always choose the window seat on an airplane for this reason–so I can observe the topography from above. I love to look out and see the way a river meanders, imagine what is on that little farm below, or speculate about those giant circle formations. What are those?

A bird’s eye view provides the “big picture” vision as well as the specific focus on an important detail that completes the story. Every time I walk around our beautiful and vibrant school, I notice learning moments that illustrate larger educational goals in action. This Bird’s Eye View blog is my attempt to share those joy-filled, earnest, and sometimes profound touchpoints in a typical day at High Meadows School. I hope these musings will provide greater insight into the work we do, which often looks like play from a distance.
