Welcome to the World Peace Game, a hands-on political simulation created by John Hunter that challenges students around the world to solve 26 intertwining human conflicts, all while remaining under budget. Players must navigate dangerous economic, social, and environmental crises to achieve global prosperity with the least amount of military intervention. In the process, players view peace as an attainable goal rather than a utopian dream.
For the past few years, Facilitator Anne Lovatt has hosted the peace game at High Meadows School as a middle years mini-course. Each year, the game is different and modeled after contemporary conflicts. High Meadows students draw on their solid foundation in teamwork, analysis, and problem-solving to play the game as thoughtful, capable world leaders. Their innate drive to build and preserve community helps them find peaceful solutions year after year.
We invite you to follow the action as it unfolds.
Week 1:
The die is cast, and the World Peace Game begins.
HMS students consider the game’s three guiding questions:
Can you afford it?
Does it make sense?
Are you prepared to live with the consequences?
Students assume their roles and learn about the four countries involved in the conflicts. Each has its own identity, motivations, and resources spread across the four tiers of the game board – underground, on land, in the air, and in space. In addition to the four countries, there are four international organizations, each with its own budget and mission: the U.N., the International Court, the arms dealer, and the World Bank.
